Just an interesting series of graphs I found showing the varying knowledge of basic scientific facts. While they seem quite good I’m still shocked and at how many people don’t know about the heliocentric model of the solar system. But here’s the real crux of the matter: In 2001 only 53% of Americans replied true to the statement “human beings, as we know them today, developed from earlier species of animals”. When I read that I can somewhat understand why only ~90% of people know about tectonic theory or heliocentrism. Evolution is the key theory in biology, denying this is would be like denying the existence of energy in physics, or atoms in chemistry, or gravitation in astronomy. It simply doesn’t make sense without it.
